Ofun: Clarity, Enlightenment and the Pursuit of Knowledge
Ofun encourages discernment, personal growth and the importance of making informed decisions. It emphasises the transformative power of knowledge and the potential for positive change when one embraces clarity and insight.
What Ofun Represents
Ofun is the Odu of light cast on a subject that was previously obscured. It is often associated with the final stage of a process, when what was hidden becomes visible and a decision that once felt impossible becomes obvious.
The name is linked to the idea of emptiness and purity, a clearing away of accumulated confusion so that the truth can be seen without distortion. Ofun does not add information. It removes interference.
When Ofun Appears in Divination
When Ofun appears, the querent is being asked to face what they already suspect. The reading frequently indicates that the answer is available and that the obstacle is willingness rather than information.
In its positive expression Ofun brings insight, intellectual clarity, spiritual awakening and the resolution of long-standing confusion. In its difficult expression it brings self-deception, hollow reasoning and the refusal to accept a truth that has already been shown.
How to Work With Ofun
Ofun prescribes study, reflection and honesty. It encourages the querent to seek accurate knowledge rather than comfortable reassurance, and to act on what is already known. Where ritual is indicated, it is generally concerned with purification, clearing the mind and restoring spiritual clarity.
The lesson of Ofun is that clarity is a discipline, not a gift. It belongs to those willing to look at what is actually there.
Ofun and the Ifa Corpus
Ofun is one of the sixteen principal Odu. It is distinct from Ofun Meji, which is Ofun doubled and carries its own interpretation.
