Otura: The Comforter and the Alignment of Consciousness
Otura, the Comforter, represents the source of mystic vision, aligning the on, or consciousness, with the Source, Olodumare. It serves as the foundation for an individual sense of destiny and purpose in life.
What Otura Represents
Otura is the Odu of right alignment. It describes the state in which a person's awareness is turned toward its origin, and in which decisions are made from that settled place. It speaks of prosperity through hard work, positive relationships and the guidance of ancestral forces.
The name of Comforter is significant. Otura does not promise ease; it promises relief. It appears when a person has been carrying confusion for too long and is ready to receive clarity.
When Otura Appears in Divination
When Otura appears, the querent is being encouraged to maintain a clear mind, to avoid distractions and to trust the guidance that is already available to them. The reading frequently concerns a decision that has been delayed because of noise rather than genuine uncertainty.
In its positive expression Otura brings wisdom, vision, good counsel and steady advancement. In its difficult expression it brings indecision, distraction and the misuse of intelligence in the service of ego.
How to Work With Otura
Otura prescribes reflection, study and alignment. It encourages the querent to quieten competing voices and to act from a considered position. Where ritual is indicated, it is generally concerned with the head, with blessing and with strengthening the connection between a person and their destiny.
The lesson of Otura is that clarity is not the absence of difficulty but the presence of orientation. A person who knows where they are going can endure almost anything on the way.
Otura and the Ifa Corpus
Otura is one of the sixteen principal Odu from which the two hundred and fifty-six are derived. It is distinct from Otura Meji, which is Otura doubled and carries its own interpretation.
