Ogbe Oyeku: The Tale of the Cat's Missed Fortune
The tale is a teaching about attention. Ifa repeatedly returns to the same idea: blessings are frequently delivered quietly, in ordinary circumstances, and the difference between receiving them and missing them is whether a person is present enough to notice. The cat in the story is not wicked. It is distracted.
Ogbe Oyeku appears when a querent is close to something valuable and at risk of losing it through neglect rather than opposition. The remedy the Odu prescribes is rarely dramatic. It is attentiveness, gratitude and the discipline of finishing what has been started.
