Ifa does not present the couple as foolish people. They are presented as ordinary people facing a demanding instruction, and the Odu is careful to show how reasonable their reasoning seemed at the time. That is precisely what makes the story useful. Most avoidable misfortune does not arrive as an obvious mistake. It arrives as a small, sensible compromise.

Ogbe Iwori is the Odu of seeing deeply, and its warning is that insight which is received but not acted upon carries its own cost. When this Odu appears in a reading, the querent is being asked whether there is something they already know and have been unwilling to act on.
